Helping members get noticed with
a guided profile experience
We redesigned Jobcase’s profile setup into a modular, step-by-step flow
that doubled completions and increased resume uploads by 60 percent.

Background
Jobcase is a platform dedicated to empowering and advocating for workers.
Over 100 million members connect on Jobcase to find jobs, share advice, and navigate the world of work. It's a two-sided platform:
Workers use it to manage their job search and access a support-oriented community
Employers use it to post roles, engage candidates, and manage hiring
This case study focuses on improving the member(worker) experience, where we designed a new profile builder to help job seekers create more complete and effective profiles.
Problem
Incomplete profiles were limiting personalization and job matching to users.
New members often dropped off before finishing their profiles, which left them less visible to employers and unable to access stronger job matches. The existing profile flow was fragmented, passive, and lacked a clear value narrative. More complete profiles meant better matches for members, which drove higher application rates and ultimately more value for the business.
Hypothesis
Guided, step-by-step profile setup will help members fill out their profile faster and increase overall job applications.
If we create a more intuitive, modular profile builder with clearer progress signals and motivational feedback, members will complete their profiles faster, with more accurate information, improving job matches and employer satisfaction.
Research
Early research showed members valued profile completion when they understood the benefit and saw an easy path to finish.
Understanding the problem
Data showed members frequently abandoned profiles during work history and job interest entry. Qualitative feedback suggested the task felt like "busywork" without clear benefits.
Validating the solution
We ran unmoderated tests with 9 participants mapped to three Jobcase personas. We learned that:
Value messaging was unclear unless tied directly to job visibility or recommendations
Resume upload was preferred over manual entry but often missed if not emphasized
Progress cues and milestone recognition increased motivation
Flexible entry options improved both completion rates and data accuracy
These insights shaped how we designed messaging, feedback systems, and resume handling.
Solution
I designed the profile builder, a guided, modular experience that increased completions and improved data quality.
Step-by-step Approach
Broke the profile into clear, digestible sections that felt achievable aimed at reducing cognitive load.
Progress Tracking and nudges
Introduced a progress indicator and celebratory messages to keep members motivated and reinforce the value of each step.
Partnered with the brand team and motion designers to create custom Lottie animations, ensuring the interactions felt on-brand, lightweight, and engaging.
After uploading a resume…
Users can then review what the API was able to parse from their upload, and add quickly and easily those entries to their profile.
Resume upload and parsing
Identified that manual resume entry was a major drop-off point.
Partnered with engineering to evaluate parsing APIs and integrated a more reliable provider, enabling members to upload a resume and instantly populate key fields.
